How We Got Here
Decade by decade, one customer at a time.
T&J didn't grow by following a five-year plan. Every shift came in response to what a customer actually needed at the time.
Here's how that played out.
1977
Founded in a Basement
Brothers Tony and Joe Sestito started T&J Electrical Associates out of Tony's basement, building a reputation as one of the Northeast's leading commercial electrical contractors, with deep experience in grocery, medical, and big-box construction projects.
2009
Next-Generation Leadership Joins
Joe's son Nick joined the company and saw a growing need for electrical service and maintenance work among existing customers, separate from construction. He built the company's service department from a single truck into a fleet of more than 50.
2009
2022
Construction Division Sold, Service Becomes the Focus
With demand for service and maintenance work outpacing construction, T&J sold its construction division to focus entirely on becoming a multi-location facility services partner for commercial operators.
2023-2024
Appliance and Local Upfit Divisions Launch
Long-standing customers began asking T&J to handle more than electrical work, so our Service Technicians trained up on commercial appliance repair. Around the same time, growing wait times from third-party vehicle upfitters led T&J to launch its own local upfit and lease division instead of continuing to wait on outside vendors.
2023-2024
Today
One Accountable Partner Across Nine States
T&J now operates as a commercial facility service partner supporting thousands of locations across the northeast. A single, self-performing team, T&J offers commercial electrical and appliance service under one roof.
Why We Evolved
T&J evolved from a commercial electrical contractor into a multi-location facility services provider because customers increasingly needed one accountable partner for ongoing service and maintenance.
As our customer base grew into multi-site retail, grocery, restaurant, and healthcare accounts, we recognized a growing demand for ongoing service and maintenance. We gradually shifted from one-time construction projects to meet our customers needs; a facility service partner who showed up, fixed the problem, and documented what happened.
That's the thinking behind every division T&J has added. Appliance service came from customers who already trusted our electrical work and didn't want to bring in a second contractor for kitchen equipment. Our local upfit division came from the same instinct: rather than wait on a third party, we built the capability ourselves.
The common thread is self-performance. Subcontracted work introduces inconsistency, and inconsistency is what multi-site operators are trying to eliminate when they call us in the first place. Every T&J Service Technician works for T&J, is trained by T&J, and answers to T&J. That's what lets us stand behind the outcome instead of pointing to someone else's crew.
What Hasn't Changed Since 1977
T&J has added divisions, sold others, and grown well beyond its original footprint. A few things never moved.
Family ownership
T&J is still run by the Sestito family, now in its second generation
Self-performing work
Every job is completed by a T&J-employed technician, never a subcontractor
Accountability
We take responsibility for the outcome, not just the visit
Long-term relationships
Some of our customer relationships date back decades
Quality workmanship
The same standard applies whether it's a single site or a nine-state rollout
In 2023, as our Service Division was quickly growing, it became increasingly difficult to keep up with customer demand without adding to our fleet of service vehicles. As the fleet grew, so did the challenge of retrofitting the vehicles to meet our specific needs.
The extensive wait periods for third party installers were not conducive to the pace at which we needed them, so we decided to do it ourselves! This led to the establishment of Clifton Park Upfit & Lease, which allowed us to not only meet our own upfit needs, but also those of many other companies in the Capital Region.
With so many exciting changes in recent years and the addition of this new division we have decided to restructure our growing family of brands to better align with who we are and what we can do for you.
